Tango RASR Update

New Malign Foriegn Talent Certification Form

A new Malign Foreign Talent Recruitment Program Certification (MFTRP) form has been added to the OSP Forms page to fulfill the NIH requirement for annual certification at the time of the Research Performance Progress Report (RPPR).
 

RAMSeS Update: DOJ Bulk Data Requirements

RAMSeS General Info screen now includes new questions to comply with Department of Justice security regulations surrounding bulk data and government-related data. 
 

NIH Salary Cap Update

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has updated its Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 Salary Cap for Grants & Cooperative Agreements (NOT-OD-26-034 and NOT-OD-26-038). Effective January 1, 2026, Executive Level II is $228,000.

OSP Monthly Journal Deadline
 

Beginning in 2026, the OSP Pre-Audit team implemented ongoing early monthly deadlines for campus journals. These deadlines precede UNC Finance’s month-end close schedule to ensure OSP has adequate time to confirm journal transactions are appropriate for sponsored projects. 
 

This month's deadline is March 24.


These dates are also posted as event reminders on the OSP webpage, where remaining deadlines for the calendar year will be updated.

Save the Dates: Spring Symposium

 

Monday, May 18 and Tuesday, May 19

The School of Medicine Research Administration Improvement, Strategy & Education (RAISE) Office and Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) are excited to host the Spring Symposium. This virtual event will offer introductory to intermediate-level knowledge and skills for campus research administrators and others involved in research activities. The Spring Symposium will offer sessions open to all participants, in addition to a dedicated track for School of Medicine (SOM) topics.
 

Call for Proposals

We are seeking proposals for general sessions and SOM track sessions. We encourage dynamic presenters to share their expertise by submitting a proposed topic or presentation by April 6.

ResearchOn Reminders


The researchon logoOVCR developed ResearchOn, a suite of onboarding programs that  include: 
  • ReAdOn for research administrators;
  • TeamOn for PIs, faculty, and program/project managers; and
  • LeadOn for departmental leadership
These programs are designed to promote a clear understanding of roles, responsibilities, and processes across UNC’s research enterprise.

ReAdOn sessions concluded in February 2026, and session materials are available on the ResearchOn webpage. TeamOn sessions are scheduled for May/June 2026; please submit your interest to receive notification when registration opens.

Reminder: Paying Independent Contractors

 

Independent Contractors (ICs) are consultants not affiliated with the University who are hired to provide specifically defined services for a limited period on a sponsored project. When paying ICs, it is important to submit the IC Voucher to the correct account code in a timely manner to ensure prompt and accurate payment.

523120 – IC expenses (usually travel)
569471 – Companies/LLCs (outside parties only)

New Step-Up Verification for Online Card Purchases Begins March 1

Effective March 1, 2026, Bank of America will introduce step-up authentication using a One-Time Passcode (OTP) for qualifying card-not-present transactions.


NSF PAPPG Supplement

The National Science Foundation (NSF) has released Policy Notice Supplement 2, which provides updates to the Proposal and Award Policies and Procedures Guide (PAPPG).


Card and Check Pickup Location Change

Card and check pickup has relocated to Suite 3200 in the Administrative Office Building (AOB). P-Card and Travel and Expense (T&E) card pickup is available Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to noon. Accounts Payable check pickup is available Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8 a.m. to noon.


CERTIFI Office Hours

The CERTIFI Committee — a partnership between Finance and Operations and Information Technology that oversees eCommerce compliance for the University — hosts Zoom office hours on the first Tuesday of every month at noon.


Clinical Research Partners Town Hall

The first Clinical Research Partners (CRP) Town Hall will be held March 30 at Noon. Representatives from key CRP business functions will provide an overview of the administrative processes that will support clinical research at UNC and UNC Health. Registration is required.
